61st Air base Group
The 61st Air Base Group is the host unit at Los Angeles Air Force Base. It provides administrative and base services to the personnel assigned to the Space and Missile Systems Center.
The Los Angeles AFB Command Post is manned 24 hours a day, providing mission critical information to the Space and Missile Systems Center and 61st Air Base Wing Commanders. The Command Post is also the focal point for outgoing information/direction to associated detachments to ensure total command and control of SMC assets. Processing Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) emergency action message traffic and coordinating the employment of resources/personnel in support of National Command Authorities (NCA) directives. Initiating Quick Reaction Checklists to protect SMC resources; briefs Commander on significant events which affect the availability of these resources. Interfaces with and issues Prior Permission Request numbers for all transient DoD aircraft into LAX. Prepares Commander's availability and operational reports IAW JCS and MAJCOM directives. Manages and safekeeps all Command and Control communication assets; processes classified material.
