FACILITIES: SMC headquarters is located in El Segundo, CA. Launch pads are located at Vandenberg, CA, Peterson AFB, CO and Kirtland AFB, NM. The Air Force is pursuing an innovative business practice as a means of upgrading facilities on Los Angeles Air Force Base (LAAFB), CA.
WORKFORCE: The center has an annual total budget in excess of $6.5 billion per year and employs 1,575 military members, 1,152 civilians and an estimated 900 contractors worldwide. It manages between $50 and $60 billion in contracts at any one time.
THE AEROSPACE CORP: Non-profit corporation in El Segundo providing technical and general systems engineering support. Employs approximately 3,800 with over 66% of these employees being scientists, engineers and computer specialists with a total DoD and non-DoD current year budget of over $700 million.
